What is broccoli seed extract?

Broccoli seed extract is a plant concentrate obtained from the sprouted seeds of the broccoli (Brassica oleracea), a plant of the cruciferous family. Unlike classic broccoli extracts from the heads or leaves, sprouted seeds are particularly rich in sulforaphane, a powerful molecule recognized for its detoxifying, antioxidant and cellular protective effects.

This extract is today considered one of the most powerful natural nutrients to support liver detoxification mechanisms, protect DNA, and stimulate internal antioxidant defenses. It is particularly widely studied in the context of the prevention of oxidative stress, chronic inflammatory disorders, or hormonal imbalances linked to estrogen overload (estrogen dominance).

Unlike classic broccoli extracts from the heads or leaves, sprouted seed extract has a higher concentration of glucoraphanin, which makes it an ingredient of interest in formulations oriented towards liver support, the metabolism and the protection against oxidative stress.

At MiYé, broccoli seed extract titrated in sulforaphane is integrated into our food supplement [MY] Essential Metabolism Activator for its role in supporting natural hepatic detoxification processes. The liver is a central organ in the management of endogenous hormones, particularly during hormonal upheavals, such as those observed during perimenopause, PCOS or menstrual cycle imbalances.

Where does broccoli seed extract come from?

Broccoli seeds come from organic crops, sprouted then quickly dried to preserve the active compounds, in particular the glucoraphanin, which transforms into sulforaphane in contact with a naturally present enzyme, myrosinase.

This gentle extraction process makes it possible to obtain a standardized and highly bioavailable extract, without additives or preservatives, and perfectly assimilated by the body.

Properties and active ingredients

  • The main active ingredient in broccoli seed extract is sulforaphane, a powerful sulfur molecule with scientifically recognized properties:

What are the benefits of broccoli seed extract?

Broccoli seed extract titrated in sulforaphane is a concentrated source of phytochemicals, in particular glucosinolates, recognized for their involvement in natural mechanisms of hepatic detoxification and the protection against oxidative stress.

In our supplement [MY] Essential Metabolism Activator, this extract is selected for:

  • Support natural detoxification processes, by activating the enzymes involved in the elimination of undesirable compounds (hormonal metabolites, xenoestrogens, etc.)*[1], [2].
  • Contribute to cellular protection against oxidative stress, thanks to the natural presence of sulforaphane, an antioxidant of plant origin*[2], [3].
  • Support major metabolic functions, notably in synergy with N-acetylcysteine, chromium and vitamin B6, which respectively participate in energy metabolism, the regulation of hormonal activity and the management of blood sugar*

*Allegations currently being studied or awaiting authorization according to European regulations. Some data comes from clinical studies on extracts titrated in sulforaphane.

How to consume broccoli seed extract?

Broccoli seed extract is most often offered in capsules standardized in sulforaphane, or under encapsulated powder form for easy and targeted use.

Directions for use:

  • Recommended dose : 100 to 200 mg of standardized extract per day, depending on the sulforaphane concentration.
  • Best consumed with a meal containing a fatty substance for better absorption.
  • Can be combined with other detoxifying active ingredients such as milk thistle, nettle or NAC.

Any side effects?

Broccoli seed extract is very well tolerated, but some sensitive people may note:

  • Bloating or mild digestive effects : at the start of treatment, especially if the microbiota is unbalanced.
  • Detox effect : it can temporarily cause fatigue or slight skin reactions, signs of active drainage.
  • Possible interaction with certain hormonal or anticoagulant treatments : in the event of treatment, medical advice is recommended.

Sources

Numerous clinical studies have validated the benefits of sulforaphane in hormonal regulation, cellular protection and hepatic detoxification. Broccoli seed extract is now one of the most promising nutraceuticals to support women in their overall balance, linked to the liver, skin, immunity and oxidative stress.
