TYPE 2 COLLAGEN
Preserve the flexibility of your joints

TYPE II COLLAGEN
MOBILITY ⎪ COMFORT ⎪ RESISTANCE
What is type II collagen?
Type II collagen is the protein major cartilage and joint tissues. It represents up to 85 % of the structure of cartilage, the material that cushions shocks between bones and allows fluid movements.
Unlike type I collagen (focused on skin – firmness – connective tissues), type II collagen is specialized in joint support : it ensures the strength, flexibility and resistance of the cartilage in the face of daily pressures.
As a supplement, it is used in the form of native collagen (undenatured) or hydrolyzed collagen, depending on the desired effects:
- The native type II collagen (UC-II®) acts on the immune response associated with the joints.
- The hydrolyzed collagen type II directly provides peptides which nourish the cartilage.
Where does type II collagen come from?
Type II collagen most often comes from:
- From animal sources, notably chicken cartilage, naturally rich in native type II collagen.
- From marine sources (less common), from fish cartilage.
The most studied and most famous form is the native type II collagen extracted from chicken sternum, widely used in joint supplements.
Properties and active ingredients
Type II collagen has specific properties essential for joints:
- Cartilage support : it strengthens the cartilaginous matrix and improves its resistance.
- Joint lubrication : promotes the production of molecules essential for suppleness (such as hyaluronic acid).
- Reduction of inflammation : especially in the form of native collagen UC-II®, which helps modulate the immune response.
- Improved mobility : makes the joints more flexible and less sensitive during movements.
- Protective action : limits the progressive wear of cartilage linked to age or sport.
What are the benefits of type II collagen?
- Improved joint mobility
- Reduced joint discomfort
- Support for cartilage and its regeneration
- Prevention of deterioration linked to age or intense use
- Helps maintain good daily flexibility
- Ideal for athletes, seniors, and people prone to joint discomfort
Its benefits:
- Strengthens the cartilage
- Improves mobility
- Reduces pain and stiffness
- Protects joints lastingly
How to consume type II collagen?
1. Native type II collagen (UC-II® or equivalents)
→ Supported low doses (10–40 mg/day).
→ Acts on immune modulation to reduce inflammation and joint discomfort.
→ Ideal for people suffering from chronic pain, mild to moderate osteoarthritis or sports discomfort.
2. Hydrolyzed collagen type II
→ Higher doses (500–1000 mg/day).
→ Provides peptides that directly nourish the cartilage.
3. In association with…
- Vitamin C → essential for the formation of collagen
- Glucosamine & chondroitin → classic combo for cartilage
- Turmeric or boswellia → powerful natural anti-inflammatories
- Magnesium → contributes to muscle function around the joint
Any side effects?
Type II collagen is very well tolerated. Possible but rare side effects:
- Mild digestive problems
- Risk if allergic to chicken (for undenatured collagen)
- Possible interactions if specific anti-inflammatory treatment (seek medical advice)
- Very rare skin reactions
Safe to use and suitable for daily use.
Sources
Clinical studies show that type II collagen, particularly in UC-II® form, significantly helps:
- improve joint mobility,
- reduce discomfort linked to mild/moderate osteoarthritis,
- protect the cartilage from degradation,
- supporting athletes subjected to repetitive impacts.
It is one of the most recognized assets for overall joint health.
