Hormonal detoxification by Louise, naturopath

1/ Hello Louise, can you explain your background in two words?

I have always given importance to treating oneself naturally without systematically resorting to medication, but it was especially when I myself had a major health problem (an autoimmune disorder) that I realized the major impact on my health of my diet, my sleep, my stress management and my emotions... It was from that moment that I decided to train in naturopathy, this holistic natural medicine which integrates all these parameters to support our health.

2/ What do you see as the major current trend in naturopathy?

The majority of women who come to see me very regularly mention hormonal imbalances ( premenstrual syndrome, acne , endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome , etc.) and for which they are looking for natural and more comprehensive support.
Estrogen dominance (estrogen > progesterone imbalance) is very common.
There are also more and more young women who are concerned about understanding their cycles and who do not systematically wish to take hormonal contraception. They are concerned about the impact that synthetic hormones can have on their health, their libido... and that they can also mask hormonal imbalances that are present at the outset.
Also, there are often women who come for support around menopause , a period of real "hormonal storm" which is not always well experienced...

Hormonal contraception

3/ Why do you think there are more and more hormonal imbalances, particularly estrogen-dominant ones?

Hormonal imbalances are indeed becoming more and more frequent because many environmental and physiological factors influence and disrupt it.
There is a close connection between our nervous system and our hormonal system. Stress and anxiety experienced in an intense and chronic manner can seriously disrupt the delicate balance of hormones.
There are also other factors such as water pollution, endocrine disruptors, deficiencies in certain micronutrients (zinc, B vitamins, selenium, etc.) but also because of our liver. A true "decontamination factory" of our body, it plays a major role in the breakdown of circulating estrogens. Often overloaded by an excess of toxins, it can no longer properly transform estrogens and allow our body to eliminate them. Proper liver detoxification can then help maintain the delicate balance between estrogen and progesterone.

4/ What do you systematically advise in these cases?

First of all, dietary advice : qualitative nutritional intake, source of good fats, vitamins, minerals and trace elements...
I also offer advice (breathing exercises, plants, micronutrient cure, etc.) to help manage stress and anxiety, which, as we saw above, works closely with the hormonal system.
I also regularly offer a liver detoxification program to relieve the liver and help with estrogen balance. Desmodium , Rosemary , Artichoke and Chrysenthellum Americanum are, for example, excellent detoxifying plants!

5/ And what happens in our body during menopause?

We think that menopause only consists of a gradual drop in hormone levels, but very often, it is a time of hormonal storm : as we approach menopause , we alternate between phases of significant secretions and sudden drops in our hormones. This is really the time to give the body the means to self-regulate by promoting in particular good detoxification of the liver so that it can properly degrade and regulate our hormones.

6/ How long does it take to feel an effect after a naturopathy session?

I generally recommend treatments based on 3 cycles (approximately 3 months) because the hormonal system is a rather slow system and must be renewed 1 to 2 times a year . But for each woman, the reaction and regulation time may vary.
In any case, it cannot be immediate because it is an approach which aims to strengthen the terrain, to help the body find homeostasis, this general state of balance.

A big thank you to Louise Lambert de Sayve, naturopath ✨

    Bonjour,

    Merci

What do the different colors of your period mean ? Understanding your flow

The color of menstrual blood naturally changes throughout the cycle, primarily due to the amount of time the blood is exposed to oxygen and the rate at which it is expelled from the uterus. At the beginning of the flow, the blood is often bright red: it is fresh, oxygenated, and flows quickly. Later, as the flow slows, the blood remains longer in the uterus or vagina, oxidizes, and turns darker shades, such as burgundy or dark brown. Observing the color of your period helps you learn to interpret your body's signals and distinguish between what is normal and what might require medical attention.

What are the best positions to relieve menstrual pain ?

When your period arrives, a few simple postures can really help reduce pain. By lying down, relaxing your abdominal muscles, and promoting blood circulation in your pelvis, you can effectively alleviate cramps and contractions. These exercises, often inspired by yoga or gentle movements, offer natural relief: whether you're in the fetal position on your side, sitting upright in a chair, or in child's pose (Balasana), they can help you without necessarily resorting to medication.
